Outstanding restaurant. Fantastic food, great cocktails and bartender (George), excellent service, wonderful London/Irish pub atmosphere, and good prices. One of the best restaurants we have dined at in Wisconsin. A hidden gem in Port Washington. The Maldon Pan Bread appetizer is an absolute must. Very unique and delicious. Its pan bread (focaccia) is also worth dipping into the delicious clam chowder. We highly recommend this restaurant.

A really cool concept. We're all third class passengers in this boat, but the service is first class. The restaurant is classy but not pretentious. The Clam Chowder was so good! The fried walleye was so flakey and fluffy and so fresh. This place is a must in Port Washington if you're looking for a unique setting and delicious food. It really is not hard to find with a sign outside pointing you towards the location.

This was the second visit to The Steerage for my wife and I, and like the first time, the food and service was exceptional. The Steerage has a good selection of entrees and sandwiches on their menu as well as daily specials. My wife had a Reuben sandwich and I ordered a walleye platter which was one of the specials that evening. Both were excellent and the walleye was done perfectly. It was the best I've had at any restaurant. If we lived closer to Port Washington we would definitely be regular customers, but even occasionally, the out-of-the-way drive is worth the dining experience.

This place was so good we had to come back a second time the next day! Great staff, excellent drink and dining options, fun and exciting specials. We happened to come in on world Gin Day and were not disappointed. The flavor combinations in everything we tried were stellar. And the Garden Cooler drink, so refreshing!

Relatively a cool location in a old Port washing haunt! Only many old-timers will remember this place! not the new comer's condo renter's! LoL! Ok first I /we feel terrible in arrival a elderly couple was trying to gain entrance to this NON ADA friendly location, sadly as we walked past to gain entrance by the time my fog induced brain had me go back upstairs to mention less / easy steps in the rear of the location in the Old A&P parking lot, they had left! Ok the saloon bar tender we new from his previous job, that said! Food was served fast and wonderful! Definitely will return!I had the special lake Walleye, Mrs had the menu fish fry cod or haddock, with amazing small mini potatoes! fabulous! Prices are fair for having real fish vs antibiotics farm raised crap! Code words most miss! Service was spot on! Price's normal for the quality of food! Keeping the Luxenbergers On the far North side of town is a breath of fresh Air! For their crappy 10 fishfrys 5:00 pm it starts filling up, we're lucky to arrive early on a Friday! Decorated mostly in ocean going pictures, but what the heck, guess our great lakes schooners didn't have steerage but some pictures of the side Wheeler Niagra lost several miles north with massive loss of immigrants now that lay at the abandoned Union cemetery that weren't recovered by family, or the Phoenix lost few miles north near Amsterdam loaded with dutch setter's So great food, service, location, prices to show they are looking to pay the horrific rent requirements due to Port Washingtons incredibly high taxes, and landlords buying in at catastrophe high prices! And get a great loyal client base! Not section 8!

Hands down one of the best dining experiences I've ever had! From the moment we sat down, the service was unlike anything I've experienced—in the best possible way. Our server, Justin, was an absolute gem. With his sharp wit and perfectly timed humor, he had us laughing through the entire meal. Whether he was offering to cut the crusts off my grilled cheese or warning that I couldn’t have dessert unless I finished my apples (mind you, I’m a fully grown adult), his playful banter made the night unforgettable. And the food? Incredible. My dining partner ordered the pork chop and described it as “melt-in-your-mouth, umami perfection.” I couldn’t have said it better myself. They said every bite was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The drinks were just as impressive—beautifully presented and delicious, rounding out a night of amazing food, great vibes, and truly top-tier service. Do yourself a favor and eat here. You won't regret it.

So this might be my new favorite spot in the area. The Fish & Chips (1853 Platter) was phenomenal, as was the Clam Chowder. It was so good, I came back for lunch 2 days later to try the Pastrami Sandwich (which was on special), and it, too, was incredible! It's a cozy place in the basement, and the staff was delightful. George, in particular, was great! Plus they consider themselves a gin bar, which is not only unique, but right up my alley. I look forward to the upcoming gin tasting events! I will certainly be back... Save me a spot at the bar!
